I say that we try to get enough players for 4 teams. Since this is something very new the people aren't going to start flocking all at once they are going to wait and see if it is worth there while to buy gear ($$$$$) or get it send from home. That being said we may have to start with only 3 teams with 7 or 8 (fully committed guys). Once people know it is up and running for good, more foreigners will get gear and come out.
RESPONSE - I agree. I was hoping for four teams. We could probably get that going with as little as 28 guys and 2 goalies (5 skaters + 2 spares per team). It’s not ideal, but I think others will be more motivated to join an existing league than a ‘promise’ of a league.
Length of the League
I think the league should run for about 6 to 8 months. There are of a lot of people coming and going. This gives us a chance to mix the teams up often and incorporate the new players.
RESPONSE - I am open to any length of a season. My worry is that if we take a break, someone will scoop our ice time. Maybe have 2 six-month seasons in a year?
Goalies:
If we can only get two goalies well we'll have to use a two goalie system then. Not too much we can do about that...if one is weaker the teams will have to switch goalies half way through the game.
RESPONSE - Yeah, we’ll have to be flexible. It’s not Canada and we’re not going to have a ton of players signing up, so we’ll do the best with what we have.
Jerseys:
I think jersey colors and designs have to be voted on by all members joining the league. Not just by a select few people. Not everyone can have the favorite NHL team jersey. I personally hate Montreal, New York Rangers and Detroit. So I would not want to wear one of those jerseys…hahaha. Team names should also be decided by a vote, get people to right down some ideas then we vote.
RESPONSE - Fair enough. I thought Ed had a good idea though. We have one jersey for the whole league. Then we get a light and a dark. When we play league games, one team goes dark, the other light. If we play as a ‘Team Daejeon’ in a tourney, we already have a jersey. We don’t have to have a third jersey to wear to a tourney. The drawback to this is there is only one of each number available. If all four teams have different jerseys, then four guys can get the same number.
Traveling Team:
Well basically this is going to be pretty harsh. If we want to play foreigner teams in Seoul or Incheon we have to be good so we don’t get embarrassed. Fill the team with the top 15 players from Cheongju and Daejon.
RESPONSE - Good idea. My only concern is that I wouldn’t be good enough to crack the squad.
Fees:
There should be an up front fee. So then we have committed people, not just people who want to show up when they feel like it. Something like ¾ up front and then ¼ at the ¾ mark of the season. I am not too sure it would have to be discussed but it has to be something to prevent teams from losing players.
RESPONSE - This can be arranged. I do prefer the up-front system too. I run a dive club/business in Korea and if there is one thing I have learned in dealing with foreigners…get a DEPOSIT!
